South Korea’s bridge diplomacy faces its APEC test

Aside from the massive success of “KPop Demon Hunters,” what is happening in South Korea? 🇰🇷

This Friday and Saturday, South Korea is hosting APEC 2025 in Gyeongju, a city that was one of my family’s favourite travel destinations when I was growing up. This is the second time South Korea has hosted the summit, after Busan in 2005. 

This piece explores what APEC 2025 means for President Lee Jae Myung's government and his “bridge” approach to foreign policy, as well as Donald Trump and Xi Jinping’s first meeting in six years. 

For Lee, “APEC 2025 presents South Korea with both a platform to shape global discourse and a test of its diplomatic finesse.”
